Wireless Sensor Payload Design for Sounding Rocket
نویسندگان
چکیده
A quick turnaround Sub-Orbital Student Experiment Module sounding rocket experiment has been designed and built to initiate the Old Dominion University wireless spacecraft bus project for the Mid Atlantic Institute for Space and Technology. The sounding rocket was launched on the 8 of June 2006 from NASA Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. This wireless sounding rocket experiment is the first step directed toward replacing wired data interfaces with their corresponding wireless counterparts for low-cost access to space. The sounding rocket experiment is designed to achieve two objectives: wireless sensor network data acquisition on board the payload and Radio Frequency (RF) environmental characterization in wireless personal area network frequency domain. The wireless sensor data collected on board provided us valuable information needed to simulate the RF environment that will exist in future space flights.

The Cosmic Infrared Background Experiment (CIBER) is a suite of four instruments designed to study the near infrared (IR) background light from above the Earth’s atmosphere. The instrument package comprises two imaging telescopes designed to characterize spatial anisotropy in the extragalactic IR background caused by cosmological structure during the epoch of reionization, a low resolution spec...
متن کاملDesign and evaluation of two distributed methods for sensors placement in Wireless Sensor Networks
Adequate coverage is one of the main problems for distributed wireless sensor networks and The effectiveness of that highly depends on the sensor deployment scheme. Given a finite number of sensors, optimizing the sensor deployment will provide sufficient sensor coverage and save power of sensors for movement to target location to adequate coverage. In this paper, we apply fuzzy logic system to...

متن کاملOn the efficiency of rocket-borne particle detection in the mesosphere
Meteoric smoke particles have been proposed as a key player in the formation and evolution of mesospheric phenomena. Despite their apparent importance still very little is known about these particles. Important questions concern the smoke number density and size distribution as a function of altitude as well as the fraction of charged particles. Sounding rockets are used to measure smoke in sit...
